We rebuilt this jacket twice before shipping it, both times because a guide reported a closure that worked fine in the shop and failed one-handed at 6,000m with a frozen mitt on. The pit zips, the hood cinch, and the chest pocket all pass the one-hand-frozen-mitt test now, or they don’t ship.
The fabric is a 3-layer laminate rated to shed spindrift in sustained wind, not just repel a rain shower — those are different failure modes and most shells are only tested for the second one.
